Races
We hold two races annually. First, we conduct a special "corporate" duck race. Then we hold our "main" race of approximately 20,000 ducks.
1:00 PM Corporate Race
Only 150 ducks are entered into the corporate duck race, and one lucky duck wins a grand prize of $1,500 in cash! The Corporate Duck Entrant Fee is $150. All corporate duck racers will be listed by company name in the event program distributed in the Westerly Sun, and in the "Thank You" ad in the Chamber newsletter, distributed to 800 members. 1:30 PM Main Race
The main race begins when approximately 20,000 rubber ducks are dumped into the Pawcatuck River, to raise money for local charities. More than 90 great prizes are available to the winning ducks, including the grand prize of a trip for a family of four to Disney World that includes hotel, air & park passes, or $2500 in cash.
Each race is governed by the State of Rhode Island as a lottery. Each duck is the same exact size, color and weight. Approximately 20,000 rubber ducks participate in the main race. The number on your Duck Sponsorship Certificate corresponds with the number on the bottom of the sponsored rubber duck entered into the race. Judges will preside over the event from various land and water locations. The decision of the judges is final. A specially created funnel ensures that only one duck at a time crosses the finish line. Winners must be 18 years of age or older and do not need to be present to win. Winners are announced immediately following the races, and prizes are awarded on site. Corresponding Duck Sponsorship Certificate may be required as verification before prizes are awarded. The Grand Prize winner is responsible for all taxes and providing a W-9 if they opt for the cash prize. Prizes must be picked up within 60 days at the Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce.
